Andrea Pabon, the founder of Adventure Satos, employs innovative approaches to support her mission of rescuing stray animals in her hometown of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. A highly skilled photographer and filmmaker, Andrea dedicates her time to capturing the stories of the forgotten and mistreated dogs of Puerto Rico. A significant portion of the proceeds from her film and photo sessions goes towards her rescue efforts.

We are deeply inspired by the dedication and impact of the Adventure Satos campaign. They provide essential support to animals, including food, vaccinations, spay/neuter initiatives, comfortable beds, travel carriers, and flights for rescues. Monochrome Canvas has partnered with Adventure Satos to create artwork that showcases the beauty of Puerto Rico, in support of their cause. You can contribute by purchasing any of the items listed below.

All prints sold include stickers indicating bronze, silver, or gold level status. Consider becoming a gold level contributor to maximize your donation to the cause. If this campaign resonates with you, please remember that you can also contribute more at checkout.

A note from Andrea:

"The word Sato originally meant "street dog" and has then become a bit of its own breed - a Puerto Rican super mutt best known for their massive pointy ears. I personally use the term referring to both. Whether it be a pure bred dog on the street or super mutt, it's a Sato and it deserves to be cared for.

Andrea Pabon of Adventure Satos

There's an estimate of over 500,000 Satos in Puerto Rico and over a million street cats.

I started rescuing dogs and cats in 2013 when I moved back to Puerto Rico to continue my work in film and TV. I ended up feeding all the Satos in my neighborhood and feeling incredibly helpless that I didn't have the right rescue connections to get them off the street. Feeling defeated, I drove around with my camera and documented their lives and their struggles as I fed them. I rescued two of my own Satos and brought them back to Chicago with me and have continued to document the struggles of the Satos in Puerto Rico. With the help of my editor, Alexis Corrigan, I've created mini documentaries that I share through social media.

I've been able to rescue Satos and cats on my own but have also met so many people doing amazing rescue work that have helped me along the way. In 2019 I met my now rescue partner, Loves Animal Rescue, that I work on rescue efforts with while I'm on the island."
