Augmented Demented
Augmented Demented
Museum quality giclée print on traditional mold-made watercolor paper that features a distinct, highly textured surface. The natural white cotton fiber paper has a uniquely toothy feel and surface texture.
"Augmented Demented" reflects the tension between deliberate creation and inevitable decay. It embodies the process of composing a piece with intention, while also embracing the digital imperfections that creep in—glitches, artifacts, and unintended disorder. This mirrors my journey of integrating digital tools into my practice, blending traditional approaches with new technology in ways that feel both exciting and unpredictable.
While I’ve embraced AI as a creative tool in my workflow, this piece speaks to the broader cultural unease surrounding its rapid development. There’s an unsettling sense that as these tools evolve, we might lose control over them, raising questions about where human creativity fits in an increasingly automated world. Augmented Demented holds that tension—the thrill of possibility alongside the discomfort of disruption.
The ants that march through the piece symbolize hard work and order, a nod to the persistence and effort we pour into creative work. Yet, alongside these moments of precision, I left subtle glitches on purpose—visual reminders of the digital origins of the piece. These glitches aren’t just accidents; they reflect the tension between control and chaos, between mastery and surrender to the tools we use.
