In 1876, while playing poker in a saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota, Wild Bill Hickok was shot from behind and killed. Legend says the cards in his hand were two black aces and two black eights. No one knows for certain what his fifth card was, but the hand became forever known as the Dead Man's Hand, one of the most recognizable symbols in poker history.
