Flourishing Resolve
Flourishing Resolve
In the face of 2020's challenges, Joëlle's pregnancy coincided with the onset of stay-at-home orders, which became a source of hope amidst uncertainty. Inspired by the resilient Protea flower, she named her daughter as a symbol of endurance. This flower has since become a recurring motif in her work, representing resilience.
The tragic events surrounding George Floyd's death and the Black Lives Matter protests deeply impacted the artist, heightening her awareness of the struggles faced by the Black community and marginalized groups during the pandemic. 'Flourishing Resolve' pays tribute to the unwavering strength and resilience displayed by Black women and communities in the face of adversity.
